About Joey

Joseph “Joey” Kay lived life to the fullest, and to know him was to love him.

He was the kind of person you could always count on. Whether he was working as an electrician, helping a friend without hesitation, or spending time at the track, Joey showed up with consistency, positivity, and a genuine care for others that made a lasting impact.

Joey was deeply connected to his community. He volunteered with the Plumsteadville Fire Company, where he was honored as Firefighter of the Year, reflecting the kind of person he was.

Someone who gave his time, his energy, and his heart to others.

He found joy in the simple things. Time at home, being outdoors, traveling to Vermont, or driving his Jeep along the river with coffee and his dogs. Those moments, and the people he shared them with, meant everything to him.

In the racing world, Joey was a fan favorite in the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, driving the No. 12 sprint car. He was respected not just for his talent, but for his sportsmanship and the way he carried himself both on and off the track.

In 2024, we lost Joey far too soon.

What remains is the way he lived. The impact he had, the relationships he built, and the example he set continue to carry forward every day.

JK12 Foundation

The JK12 Foundation was created to carry forward the way Joey lived. He showed up for people. He gave his time, his energy, and his heart. That same mindset drives everything we do.

Our mission is built on three core pillars:

Carry Forward Who Joey Was

Leading with kindness, consistency, and a commitment to showing up.

Give Back in Meaningful Ways
Supporting local causes and the racing community where it matters most.

Bring People Together
Through events like the Joey Kay Memorial Race, a 305 sprint car event with the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, we create connection and shared purpose.

Our goal for 2026 is to donate $15,000, expanding our impact and reaching more people in need. Everything we do is about continuing the kind of impact Joey had on the people around him.

JK12 Foundation's First Donation

With the incredible support of our 2025 race sponsors, everyone who bought a t-shirt and all who donated, the JK12 Foundation was able to make it's very first donation.

Together, we were able to donate $5,000 to NOVA (Network of Victim Assistance), an organization that provided critical support to Joey’s family and loved ones during an incredibly difficult time. What began as a memorial has grown into something meaningful and lasting, made possible by a community that continues to show up with generosity, compassion, and love. We are honored to give back in Joey’s name and invite you to learn more about NOVA and the important work they do.
